If you ask anyone about Mary, they will say she has a great sense of humor and loves the Iowa Hawkeyes!

Mary has lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa all her life. Growing up with two brothers and one sister, she was very close to her family, especially with her mother. Mary’s mother, who was her best friend passed away 10 years ago. Not a day goes by that she doesn’t miss her.

Mary loves talking about her family and reminiscing about family gatherings. Her family loved sports, especially getting together to watch football games. Everyone had different teams they cheered for, but she remembers how fun it was bonding over the games and enjoying yummy food. Mary was always the Hawkeye fan in the family, tuning into the T.V. or radio on Saturdays to cheer on her team, never having a chance to see her team play in person.

With her health declining, Mary has resided at Northcrest Care Center in Council Bluffs for the last few years. When Tiffany Hunt, nurse at Northcrest Care Center, heard about the mission of the Dreamweaver Foundation she knew just who to nominate. Tiffany said, she nominated Mary because they share a special bond and the fire in Mary inspires her every day. With only one home game left, we partnered with University of Iowa Athletics to make Mary a special guest at the Iowa vs Purdue game.

Cheri, Dreamweaver Foundation Executive Director, surprised Mary at Northcrest with tickets to the Iowa vs Purdue game along with new Hawkeye gear from our friends at Scheels. Mary, her daughter and Tiffany left a day before the game to ensure they could enjoy all the pregame events even receiving on-the-field pregame passes, box seats, a tour of Kinnick Stadium and gifts from the Hawkeyes. Channel 7 News followed Mary throughout her Dream.

Dreamweaver Foundation wants to thank our partners University of Iowa Athletics, Scheels, Northcrest Care Center and Rent-A-Van Omaha for helping us fulfill Mary’s Dream.
