Lois Young was born and raised in South Omaha. She was married at 16 years old and has two children, Jim from Omaha and Suzy from Lohi, California. Lois provided for her family as a Dental Hygienist for many years and eventually worked for the Government. She spent 20 years in Topeka, Kansas with her second husband and fell in love with traveling the world and visiting animals at the Topeka Zoo. Lois has always had a love for animals, especially dogs!
Throughout her life, Lois had many Cocker Spaniels and still has Sassy, a 4 lb Yorkie that lives in California with Suzy. Lois moved to Florence Home three years ago because of her Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Sassy was unable to move in with Lois, so Suzy took Sassy to live in California with her. Sassy would spend time curled up on Lois’ back and was always comforting to her. Lois missed Sassy and dreamt to see her dog again and spend time with her family.
Dreamweaver Foundation wanted to give Lois time with her family and dog. Suzy and Sassy boarded a plane and flew from California to Omaha! Because of Lois’ love for animals, we partnered with Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo to host the day. It was a beautiful, sunny April afternoon. Lois sent the day with her sister, kids, nieces, nephews, grandkids and even four great-grandchildren! A total of 32 family members from Nebraska, Iowa and surrounding states came to visit Lois!
Suzy said Lois was speechless when she saw Sassy. She couldn’t stop smiling and she had stars in her eyes all day. Jim said, “the day was just wonderful!”
Dreamweaver Foundation would like to thank our community partners, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo for hosting our Dreamer and her family and Midwest Medical for transporting Lois safely to and from the Zoo.
