“Well, if you ask me where I come from, here’s what I tell everyone: I was born by God’s dear grace in an extraordinary place. Where the stars and stripes, and the eagle fly” – Aaron Tippin
It had been several years since JC was able to go fishing, and he was itching to get back on the water again. Luckily, his hospice social worker, Emily, knew the Dream Team could help make his fishing dreams come true. JC is a sarcastic man with a funny, dry sense of humor. However, his demeanor turned giddy and nostalgic when talking about his dreams.
JC said the best fishing happens first thing in the morning. With his Dream scheduled for 11:00am, JC patiently sat by the front door, ready for his day, dressed in his fishing gear. He was not thrilled with the idea of arriving at the lake in a fancy limousine, instead, he had a better idea- a classic 1972 Chevy Pickup Truck! Luckily, we had a connection to someone who owned such a classic vehicle, and the rest is history.
It was a perfect fall day on Lake Wanahoo in Wahoo, NE—the crew from Live Well. Go Fish. had the boat prepared and JC’s favorite tunes queued up on the stereo. What is better than fishing and soaking up the sun’s rays while listening to the Beatles? Well… JC received a sign from the universe! Just as the Aaron Tippin song, “Where the Stars and Stripe, and the Eagle Fly,” played on the stereo, a bald eagle flew over the fishing boat. The entire group’s gaze drew towards the blue skies in awe of the incredible moment. Luckily, one of the volunteers took a photo at that moment, capturing JC’s priceless reaction. It was the cherry on top of the cake. As JC was leaving the lake, the owner of the pristine, baby blue truck peeled out of the parking lot, bringing yet another big smile to JC’s face.
