Ed's Dream

After 34 years, Ed returned to Memorial Stadium to cheer on the Huskers, and it was every bit as special as anyone could have hoped.

A lifelong sports lover, Ed has always found joy in the excitement of a game. He has played and enjoyed just about every sport imaginable, including soccer, baseball, softball, tennis, basketball, and volleyball, and he continues to love watching both Husker football and volleyball. So, being back in the stands at Memorial Stadium was more than just attending a football game, it was a chance to return to a place that held special memories for him and create a brand-new one.

The energy of the night was incredible from the moment Ed arrived. He loved looking out over the stadium in awe. True to Ed’s personality, he found plenty of ways to enjoy the evening by settling in with a hot dog piled with mustard, an ice cream, and a beer for supper. It was the perfect game-day meal!

Ed especially enjoyed seeing the Husker band alumni and twirlers, and the evening’s tributes to September 11 and military personnel were deeply meaningful to him. Ed is a tenderhearted guy, and the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner brought tears to his eyes. Throughout the night, there were little bursts of happy tears as he took in the moment.

There were so many little moments that made the night feel just right for Ed. From the roar of the crowd and the band to the tributes, the featured athletes, the stadium food, and the familiar sea of Husker fans, everything came together for him. And then, just when the night couldn’t get any better, Memorial Stadium lit up with an incredible drone and light show after the game. Ed got to sit back, look up, and take it all in as the sky became the grand finale to his special night.
