Since his younger years, Doyle has had a green thumb! His love for gardening sprouted from his dad. He was born and raised on a farm, working outdoors and gardening came very organic to him. Into his adult years, he continued growing the garden in the hills of Western Iowa full of flowers and vegetables.

Two years ago, Doyle moved to Glen Haven Home in Glenwood, IA. He continued his passion tending to the home’s garden and courtyard. Recently, his diagnosis has kept him indoors. Knowing how much Doyle misses his flowers and gardening, Mary from AseraCare Council Bluffs nominated Doyle to receive a Dream that would bring him back to his roots.

Mother Nature sent cold weather and snow making the dream date get rescheduled a few times, but the day finally came! It was still a bit chilly, but Doyle was ready for a day out. Midwest Medical escorted Doyle and his AseraCare Aide, Allie, to Lauritzen Gardens. When he arrived, his niece, Rose Mary, and Dreamweaver staff members, Cheri and Ashley welcomed him. He spent hours enjoying Lauritzen Garden’s Conservatory and the current show, Metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is an exhibit constructed of found, recycled and reused plastic objects. The exhibit is used as a beautiful way to educate the importance of recycling. We were all in awe of the beautiful sculptures consisting of spoons, Jiffy Peanut Butter Lids, spatulas and many other common household items.

After touring the Gardens, he enjoyed lunch and dessert at the Café before returning to Glenwood.

We want to thank our partners AseraCare Council Bluffs, Midwest Medical, Glen Haven Home and Lauritzen Gardens for helping us fulfill Doyle’s Dream.
