Dave’s love for mechanics and motors all began with his father. They enjoyed spending hours and hours working on antique cars, bringing them back to life. When Dave had a son, Ben, he knew he would pass down his love for automotives. Just like Dave and his dad, Dave and Ben would rebuild cars together. He loved reminiscing about reviving a 1955 Eldorado with Ben.
Dave made his passion for fixing things into a career. Spending 24 years working in the maintenance department for a printing company. He loved taking something that was broken and making it work again. The last three years he was a property manager for Seldin Company. He enjoyed taking care of the properties; especially ensuring the ducks were fed at Lakeside!
In Sept 2017, David received news he had cancer in his liver, lungs and bones. Soon after his diagnosis, Dreamweaver Foundation received a nomination from someone in the community, nominating Dave to fulfill a dream. When we met with Dave to discuss his life-long dreams, he couldn’t believe someone nominated him to fulfill a dream, he expressed several times there had to be someone more deserving. After a few minutes of reassuring Dave he deserved to fulfill a dream and Dreamweaver would help to make it happen, he told us he wanted to spend time with his hero and best friend, his son. When Ben was 17 years old, he was diagnosed with Leukemia and received his wish to go to Disney World from Make-A-Wish. Now, 20 years later Ben is a cancer survivor and helping his dad through his diagnosis.
Sharing a love for all things automotive, Dave couldn’t think of a better place to spend time with Ben than in North Carolina visiting Wheels Through Time and NASCAR Hall of Fame. They spent days walking through each museum enjoying the history and stories told by the antique cars and motorcycles. This was their first time in North Carolina and they wanted to see all the sights! Driving through the Smokey Mountains, enjoying the lush green forest and to Myrtle Beach to relax in the serene of the ocean.
Dave thanked Dreamweaver countless times for giving him this experience to enjoy with Ben. Dave passed away just a few weeks after his dream. It was our pleasure to be a part of and full Dave’s Dream.
Thank you to Travel and Transport and VIP Limo for partnering with Dreamweaver Foundation.
