It’s not every day that you meet someone who is about to turn 102 years old! When Angela was nominated for a Dream, she had a difficult time deciding what she wanted. Although her family talks of her popularity, Angela is not typically comfortable in the spotlight. In recent years, Angela’s positivity and outgoing personality has propelled her into a certain form of “royalty.” She was named Valentine Sweetheart at her previous residence and voted Prom Queen this past year at Brookestone Meadows. Despite obviously being beloved, she still did not want a Dream to be all about her.
Being the humble woman she is and having grown up during the Depression, she learned to be strong and thrifty for those who depended on her. Angela’s family believes her resilience has brought her to her 102nd birthday. When asked how she’d like to celebrate her birthday this year, her humble answer came as no surprise, “seeing my family is all I need.”
Trying not to shine the spotlight too bright on Angela so as not to cause her any embarrassment, her daughter worked with Brookestone Meadows’ staff and the Dreamweaver team to throw her a surprise 102nd birthday party. Arriving at the party, Angela had no idea it was all for her until she caught a glimpse of the “Happy 102nd Birthday” sign. Angela’s family along with residents and staff at Brookestone Meadows helped her celebrate her big day with a huge birthday cake, 102 homemade birthday cards, a beautiful floral arrangement, and a special wrist corsage.
When asked what she thought of her age, she replied with fits of laughter, “That’s old!” Angela provided her party guests some advice for living to be 102 years old – she said one must “stay active and be happy.” Everyone could tell she followed her own advice. The Dreamweaver team is delighted to have played a part in a wonderful celebration for a very deserving woman.
Cheers to many more years, Angela!
