Adobe Dreamweaver is currently the leading web design, authoring and editing software in the industry. Originally created in March 1998 by Macromedia, which was acquired by Adobe Systems in 2005, the ninth version of Dreamweaver was developed by Adobe Systems in April 16, 2007. Since then, the latest version has incorporated support for web technologies like Ajax, JavaScript, HTML, XHTML, XML, FTP and CSS. Dreamweaver CS5.5 also supports various server-side scripting frameworks and languages like ASP, PhoneGap, Scriptlet, PHP, CMS for WordPress, Joomla!, Drupal and Adobe ColdFusion.

 

For those using Windows operating systems, the system requirements for the Dreamweaver software include:

  • Intel Pentum 4 or AMD Athlon 64 processor
  • 512MB of RAM
  • Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 but Service Pack 3 is much more recommended
  • Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate with Service Pack 1
  • Windows 7
  • 1280×800 display with 16-bit video card
  • 1GB of available hard-disk for installation. Extra free space is required for installation (Dreamweaver won’t be able to install on removable flash storage devices)
  • DVD-ROM drive
  • Broadband internet connection (there are online services that require internet access during installation and updates and also to validate the ongoing subscription edition).

Installing the Dreamweaver software for those using Mac operating systems on the other hand has system requirements that include:

  • Multicore Intel processor
  • Mac OS X v10.5.8 or v10.6
  • DVD-ROM drive
  • 512MB of RAM
  • 1280×800 display with 16-bit video card
  • 1.8GB of available hard-disk in your computer for installation. Extra free space is required for installation (Dreamweaver software won’t be able to install case-sensitive files systems on a volume or on removable flash storage devices)
  • Broadband internet connection (online services require internet access during installation, updates and validation for ongoing subscription)

 

Dreamweaver can also be activated using online. The Product Activation Center has specific instructions to follow depending on your operating system. Online services include Adobe CS Live Services, are available for users 13 and above only. Dreamweaver user agreement and additional terms and conditions as well as Adobe’s online privacy policy is required. However, online services are not available in all countries or all languages.

The Dreamweaver software is available in certain languages only (i.e. English, Deutsch, Italian, Spanish, French, Polish, Portuguese, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Czech, Swedish and Russian) for purchase. Online services are available to users and may also require user registration prior to usage. Subscription to Dreamweaver may be subject to change or discontinued without notice as well as additional fees or subscription charges applies.

  • The Multiscreen Preview panel in Dreamweaver CS5.5 software allows users to create web designs for smartphones, personal computers and tablets. It contains media query support that is used to style and visualize rendering for a variety of devices in just one single panel.

 

  • The Native Android and iOS apps with PhoneGap allows users to convert existing HTML into a mobile phone or smartphone application using the open source PhoneGap framework included in Dreamweaver CS5.5. You can create and package native apps for iOS and Android as well.

 

  • Dreamweaver CS5.5 is integrated with jQuery mobile, the industry-standard JavaScript library that allows users to add advanced interactivity into their web design. Starter templates are included in Dreamweaver CS5.5 software for easy use.

 

  • The CSS3 or HTML support functionality in Dreamweaver CS5.5 allows users to apply different styles and web design as screen dimensions are adjusted. The design view option has code hinting and rendering support capabilities and support media queries as well as CSS3.

 

  • The Live View option includes support for <video> (with the use of QuickTime) and <svg> tags. It has an updated WebKit rendering engine.   • Dreamweaver CS5.5 is also integrated with W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) live validation that ensures standards-based web designs are accurate.

 

  • Files can be stored more securely with the use of the integrated Subversion version 1.7 software in Dreamweaver.

 

  • Dreamweaver CS5.5 also includes CSS Starter layouts. The CSS box model is visually displayed in detail allowing users to easily toggle CSS properties without the need to use a separate utility or read codes.

 

  • Users are allowed to create and maintain PHP applications with Dreamweaver CS5.5 as well as set up websites easily using the retooled Dreamweaver Site Definition dialog box. Multiple servers with custom names can be added.
